i agree to a point to all of you ive been on the watter sence i was 7 years old on the commercial side of the fisherman and also the angler side. some of the limits are for the better for all and some are not. the fact is the angler's should have the smaller size limit and the commercial fisher man should have the larger size because of the size intake.. the commercial fisherman sell by lbs not size. eventhow they do have the size limit. where as the anglers are not aloud to keep over 5 fish per person. its those papper pushing punks that probly never been on a boat in there life wrighting the rules. we as angler's and commercial fisherman need to come together and try to help them understand our point of vew and help preduce larger fish and more fish for the anglers to keep as the commercial fisherman's size limit would increase to a larger fish and add on a few more lbs to what our commercial boats are aloud to keep and everyone would be happyer and see a better result.

I have been fishing since I was a little boy. I just don't understand what the he'll is going on with size limits ,times of the year when I can fish for certain fish. As I remember it you could fish for whatever you caught whenever you caught it. Since when did the state or anyonelse buy or take over the oceans so that I have to report what kind of fish I caught and when I caught them. If their biting their in season. When did I loose my right to fish and keep what I caught, who decided this for me? It surely wasn't me. I' m 60 now so I must have sleeping for many years! What year did all this take place? Will I go to jail if i don't abide? Just keep your hands off my bucket of fish or suffer my consequences, just like the old days!

I agree with most of the commentaries on the new limits for fluke. This is not based on science, it's politics. I caught and released more fluke in the 16 to 18 inch class last year than ever before, and I have been fishing for them for over 40 years. There's no shortage of fish. The commercial draggers have a 14" size limit, so all those 100's of "shorts" I threw back likely ended up in one of their nets. Many ask why commercials don't have the same size limit. I'll tell you why. Most local draggers bring their catch to their local coops to sell. These fish are picked up by refrigerated trucks and go to restaurants, many in NYC. Did you ever see a filet from a 5# fluke on a dinner plate in a high price restaurant? No. The fish we throw back, 14 ot 18 inches, create the perfect plate size fillet for these restaurants. They will let us catch all the 5lbers. we want, as long as we don't dig into their "bread and butter" fish. There's no conservation in these limits, it's all allocation.
